Tacoma Power notified Thurston County EOC at 11:45AM May 6, 2014 of an immediate release of water from Le Grande Dam. Thurston County provided notice by phone ALERTS to those along the NORTH of Nisqually River and only those who were SIGNED UP FOR WATER ALERTS. MANY DID NOT RECEIVE A PHONE ALERT EVEN WHILE SIGNED UP. Additionally Thurston County EOC provided a scant mention on Facebook at 2:55PM (THE ZERO HOUR) May 6th of the THREE HOUR OLD RELEASE that would PEAK at 3PM-4PM to 8,700 cu ft. Essentially NO NOTICE. At the time of the Thurston County EOC Facebook post, our River Park trails were FLOODING OVER. No notice was given that there was a release to anyone signed up for WATER ALERTS elsewhere SOUTH on the Nisqually River.

 

OUR COMMUNITY RIVER PARK TRAILS flooded.

WE WERE GIVEN ZERO NOTICE BY PHONE ALERT.

 

In order to provide NOTICE to our COMMUNITY that our RIVER PARK TRAILS will become flooded, it is required that our HOA send a letter of concern to THURSTON COUNTY EOC asking that THURSTON COUNTY EOC revise their CURRENT POLICY to include NOTIFYING OUR COMMUNITY of ANY FUTURE RELEASE of the DAM (via phone alert to the office).

 

Phone calls & messages left with TACOMA POWER, were unanswered. Two such messages and phone calls were made to their office.

 

Thurston County indicated that TACOMA POWER gives "a courtesy call" to notify the EOC of dam release. TACOMA POWER IS NOT REQUIRED TO CALL THURSTON COUNTY EOC.

 

You are STRONGLY encouraged to attend the OPEN BOARD MEETING. MAY 12th 6PM to VOICE any concerns.

 

The Complaint/Suggestion form has been slightly altered to include a *GOOD JOB!* comment/suggestion. If someone you know has done a *GOOD JOB!* you are encouraged to let the community know. We could all use good news.

 

Sign the petition/suggestion form requesting that current and future BOARD MEMBERS would be required to provide an email address OR a phone number so that members and residents of The Nisqually Pines Community Club may contact them. Other HOA's offer NORMAL two way communication. WE SHOULD TOO!
